Jean Claracq

« Jean Claracq’s painting could be described as painting from the screen as others once painted from nature. In his smooth canvases – which are as reminiscent of the glossiness of glossy photo paper as they are of the even luminosity of the screen’s surface – image culture is omnipresent. Quotations multiply through references to the history of art as well as to the vernacular register. The painting openly displays its relationship to photography, even more so it resorts to one of its most widespread distribution channels: Instagram. » (Audrey Illouz).
