Mohamed Hamidi

Artist

Born in 1985 in Casablanca, Morocco.
Lives and works in Casablanca.

Mohamed Hamidi was one of the first Moroccans of the promising post-colonial era to join the Casablanca School of Fine Arts as a student. During 1959, he lived a true bohemian artist’s life in Paris, assiduously attending museums and galleries, visiting workshops and exhibitions and enrolling at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. His work is rich and plural, devoted on the one hand to African art, and to universal signs and symbols on the other. Using line and color in a search for balance and formal harmony, Hamidi’s work is nevertheless marked by a strong erotic imprint.
