Alain Séchas
Alain Séchas was born on June 16, 1955 in Colombes. He taught drawing in state schools until 1996. Since 1981, his work as an artist has been exploring drawing as a projection that does not escape the viewer. From a simple drawing on paper to mobile, three-dimensional enlargements of characters with cat-heads, the (sometimes dark) humorous and human dimension has a strong presence in his work.
In Paris, he is represented by Galerie Laurent Godin.
Alain Séchas has created many publicly commissioned sculptures:
2008 Sonsbeek 2008, Lazy King, Arnhem, (Netherlands).
2007 Les Grands Fumeurs, commission for the park at MAC/VAL, Vitry-sur-Seine, (France).
2001 Public commission for the tramway columns in Strasbourg, (France).
1999 Triplechaton, public commission, Le Safran, Amiens, (France).
He has participated in many exhibitions in France and abroad:
2016 Coup de vent, Musée d’Art Moderne de La Ville de Paris, (France).
2008 Nuit et jour, Le Forum, Maison Hermès, Tokyo, (Japan).
2005 Jurassic Pork II, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, (France).
2002 Les Somnambules, Chapelle Saint-Louis de La Salpêtrière, Festival d’Automne, Paris, (France).

Since the 2008 exhibition “Rêve brisé” at the Musée Bourdelle in Paris, where the ‘cats’ momentarily disappeared in favor of abstract paintings, he has been continuing his drawing work in tension with the materiality of painting. His 2018 exhibition at the Musée de l’Abbaye Sainte-Croix in Les Sables d’Olonne connects that 2006 period with today, mixing abstracts and found cats…
