Entretiens sur l'art Meeting with Boris Achour
The series of « Entretiens sur l’art » gives the opportunity to hear the word of an artist on his or her work in long-term conversations.
Boris Achour began exhibiting in the early 1990s. He became known for his ephemeral actions in the urban space, first photographed and presented as a slide show, then filmed on video: the Actions-Peu (1993-1997).
Little by little, his work moved into the field of sculpture, installation and video. He also develops a curatorial and collective activity within the art space Public (2001-2006), then editorial with the magazine Trouble (2002-2010).
From the 2000s onwards, he multiplied his experiments with the format of the exhibition itself: « visit-poem » (Nathalie Quintane), exhibition in the form of a show, games, rebus, assembly of « object-fictions ». The forms circulate and reconfigure themselves from one work to another, and from one decade to another, to create a poetic and non-authoritarian cosmogony whose relationship to language constitutes the backbone.
Based on his current exhibition at the Allen Gallery (Paris) entitled Damp, this interview will focus on questions of production in the artist’s work and will review a recent body of work.
Boris Achour was born in 1966.
He lives and works in Paris.
