Compagnonnage Horizones #2 "Patchworkshop"
23rd Fondation Pernod Ricard Prize
Meeting with Benoît Piréon, Géraldine Gourbe et Clément Dirié
Much of Benoît Piéron’s practice consists of group workshops, whether it’s herbalizing cemetery flora, sewing affectionate objects, or encapsulating illustrious gardens – from the tapestry of the Unicorn Lady to Derek Jarman’s Prospect Cottage. In her workshops, being together, exchanging on various subjects and spending time side by side and focused matter as much as the final production.
For the 23rd Pernod Ricard Foundation Prize, Benoît Piéron talks with the philosopher, art critic and curator Géraldine Gourbe and Clément Dirié, curator of the prize. It will be question of the uses of patchwork and its genealogies with art as a social practice (in particular Californian), of safe spaces and of the inevitable « rhetorical condition of responsibility », of our relationship to ornament between camp and accompaniment/mourning of the sick loved one. And many other things…
