Voluntary Suspension of Credulity
The Fondation d’entreprise Ricard is giving carte blanche to artist Emmanuelle Lainé to take over the Panorama tower of the Friche la Belle de Mai in Marseille.
For this exhibition, Emmanuelle Lainé combines familiar objects, organic materials and life-size images to create a complex picture that explores the relationship between digital image, art exhibition and contemporary non-places.
The way the artist designs her immersive installations stems in part from the culture of the digital image. The layer overlay principle (of the image) is deployed and extended to the entire installation.
« I think of spaces that I create as workspaces or shelters. I like the idea that the spaces between the layers of the image can be gaps where you could hide or disappear. I also like the fact that these layers create a kind of microarchitecture. »
In this installation specifically designed for the Panorama space, Emmanuelle Lainé discusses the border between our personal and professional lives. Displaying a selection of objects borrowed from MUCEM collections, alongside intimate household items, it refers to contemporary open-space work environments; spaces that house a combination of creative and prosaic activities.
