À deux voix

Monday 11 April 2016 at 7 pm

Marinella Senatore studied art, film and music before devoting the last decade or so to developing a participative form of art, approached as a collective experimental creation. She draws on an intense programme of investigation and exchange with her volunteers to combine methods from documentary film-making and the entertainment industry. Each of her casting calls offers the opportunity to explore the skills, dreams, and aspirations of her future co-authors. The projects she undertakes with them vary from radio plays to gigantic parades, films, and even operas to be shown on screen. For the screen opera Rosas (2012), she put together a team from three institutions in Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom, working with over twenty thousand individuals altogether. In 2013, together with the choreographers Nandhan Molinaro and Elisa Zucchetti, she founded the School of Narrative Dance to further the joint practice of writing narrative and dance. Marinella Senatore considers herself as a catalyst for the creative process; her work can be seen as a way of teaching art in which the roles of performer, spectator, and student are intertwined. It comes as little surprise that one of her most recent projects was entitled L’Ecole de Marinella Senatore. The pop-up school, created during her time as artist in residence at the Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers, concluded with the creation of her work MétallOpérette.
