The conversation between the novelist Gaëlle Obiégly and the philosopher and writer Judith Schlanger is to be on the theme « Invent ».

The starting point for their conversation is the process of invention proper to the literary zone and the astonishing adventures in reading embodied in their own books.

BIOGRAPHIES

Gaëlle OBIEGLY
Gaëlle Obiégly is a writer and novelist. Her work – part fragment, part diary, part train of thought, part digression, part fiction – invents and trials new forms of narrative. Her publications to date include Petite figurine en biscuit qui tourne sur elle-même dans sa boîte à musique (2000), Le Vingt-et-un août (2002), Gens de Beauce (2003), Faune (2005), and La Nature (2007), all published by L’Arpenteur-Gallimard, Petit éloge de la jalousie ( Folio-Gallimard, 2007), the children’s book
Le coyote et la fée (Le Baron perché, 2007), Le Musée des valeurs sentimentales (Verticales, 2011), and Mon Prochain (Verticales, 2013). She also writes for journals such as Chroniques purple.

Judith SCHLANGER
Judith Schlanger’s body of work is striking in the breadth and diversity of her interests and her highly individual manner of expressing her thoughts that make her books and essays a process of discovery of the self as well as of the world. Her work focuses on thought, novation, language, metaphor, reading, and cultural memory and its losses. She was Professor at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem from 1969 to 1996.
Her wide-ranging oeuvre includes numerous studies and essays, most notably Schelling et la réalité finie, essai sur la philosophie de la nature et de l’identité (PUF, 1966), Les Métaphores de l’organisme (Vrin, 1971, 2nd edition Hermann, 1995), Penser la bouche pleine (Mouton, 1975, 2nd edition Fayard, 1983), Le Comique des idées (Gallimard, 1977), Les concepts scientifiques. Invention et pouvoir  (co-author Isabelle Stengers, La Découverte, 1989, 2nd edition Gallimard-Folio Essai, 1991), L’Invention intellectuelle (Fayard, 1991), La mémoire des œuvres (Nathan, 1992, 2nd edition Verdier, 2008), La Vocation (Seuil, 1997), Présence des œuvres perdues (Hermann, 2010), and La lectrice est mortelle (Circé, 2013). She has also authored collections of texts and poetry, including Patagonie (Métailié, 1990), Douleur parfaite (Circé, 1991), and L’Humeur indocile (Les Belles Lettres, 2009), and most recently a coming-of-age narrative, Le front cerclé de fer (Circé, 2015).
