Going Away
In his book En Patagonie avec Michel Houellebecq (CNRS Éditions, 2011), Brazilian journalist and scholar Jurémir Machado tells of a journey to the end of the world with the novelist. A journey in all the senses of the term: the thirst for the infinite and the desire for an elsewhere which run through Michel Houellebecq’s whole work. But also a musical journey written in a contrapuntal mode, where exchanges between the author and the novelist seem to move apart and chase each other constantly. To reach a conflictual harmony, in the end: which defines postmodernity.
