A look back at the residence of LYL Radio at Aperto

During the two months of their residency (September - October 2024), independent radio station LYL Radio moved its Paris studio to Aperto to produce its ritual broadcasts every Tuesday. Added to this were special programmes and broadcasts, celebrating their residents, labels and various projects, as well as other contributors, as and when we invited artists living in or visiting Paris. This residency was an opportunity for the radio station to meet its audience in the flesh at events, musical and/or multidisciplinary projects, geared towards deep listening. Many live sets followed one another, as well as various types of meetings: ritual circle, interview, recitation and others, taking advantage of the diversity existing within LYL.

Un passage, un espace pour faire résonner les voix. L’air circule, l’espace est ouvert et devient un instrument géant. Ielles sifflent, tapent, crient, peut-être articulent et murmurent.                              (A passageway, a space for voices to resonate. The air circulates, the space is open and becomes a giant instrument. They whistle, tap, shout, perhaps articulate and murmur.)

An evening devoted to the cassette culture of the 1980s, presented by Simon Debarbieux (independent ethnomusicologist, curator of the Contre-bande exhibition) and his guests: Nicolas Ballet (author of ‘Shock Factory: Culture visuelle des musiques industrielles, 1969-1995’, Les Presses du réel) and Christophe Mielle (documentary filmmaker, author of ‘Z comme Réseau’).
