Around Edgar Morin

Tuesday 22 June 2010 at 7 pm

The need for a complex thought to understand societal complexity is the subject of this Invitation to the imaginary about sociologist and philosopher Edgar Morin, in his presence.

To broach the subject, Michel Maffesoli has invited scholars Ali Aït Abdelmalek (Université de Rennes), Philippe Joron (Université de Montpellier) and ERANOS director Stéphane Hugon.
Modernity had boiled down ways of being and thinking to the smallest common denominator: an identity, a nation-state, an ideology, reason, progress, etc. Post-modernity introduces the turn of plurality: multiple identifications, representations of the world marked by diversity, the union of reason and the senses, another relation to nature. All of which lie precisely at the heart of the notion of « reliance, » a leitmotiv in Edgar Morin’s work.
A relation with nature, the tribe, and even the sacred: there is the beating heart of the postmodern mosaic.
