Book launch: Guide de survie dans la mer by Shuo Hao

Saturday 22 April 2023 at 5 pm

With Shuo Hao and the éditions 2024.

Since her studies at the Beijing Fine Arts School and then at the illustration workshop of the Haute École des Arts du Rhin in Strasbourg, Shuo Hao has been developing a twofold artistic practice: on the one hand, paintings and installations exploring the figure of the monster and metamorphosis, and on the other hand, children's books for the éditions 2024. After two first Guides de Survie in which we followed her little green monster in the jungle and then in the city, he is back in the sea. His exploration of the ocean depths will make him brave danger with his usual inventiveness to save a pretty mermaid. From the beast-monster of the beginnings, Shuo Hao has made his main character evolve closer to a canine, then towards a humanization reinforcing, if it was still possible, his strangeness. Always devoid of words, the adventures of his chameleon hero are devoured with the joy of discovery and the pleasure of a wonderfully playful and original imagination.

Shuo Hao (郝 铄) was born in China. After studying at the Beaux-Arts in Beijing, she spent a few months at the Sorbonne before joining the illustration workshop at the Haute École des Arts du Rhin, in Strasbourg. Always between two countries - and on a plane - she is in charge, with French and Chinese friends, of the micro-edition collective Hors Service. Guide de survie dans la jungle is her first book published in France, and was awarded an "Opera Prima" mention at the prestigious Foire du Livre Jeunesse de Bologne. Since then, she has also explored, with her monsters and hybrid creatures, the territories of photography, gouache painting and contemporary drawing. Shuo Hao is an artist represented by the Derouillon Gallery.
