Wonderama is a word created by Hugues Reip from Wonderland and diorama. This compresion of two words is the title to this resolutely singular artist's book in which Hugues Reip's Noirs Desseins series is accompanied by a text-glossary by Vinciane Despret and an original song performed by Rodolphe Burger.
Gathered together for the first time, his drawings, made between 2009 and 2022 in Indian ink, watercolor and very regularly augmented with collages, function like "automatic vision dispensers". Hugues Reip says that his drawings create a narrative between nature and the virtual universe, space and temporality, like an attempt to expand the boundaries of perception.
As Vinciane Despret experiences with her glossary written to navigate among the fifty or so drawings or the song Tranquil Light interpreted by Rodolphe Burger, Wonderama is a portable dream world where everything is possible. The song recorded by Rodolphe Burger will appear as a QR code. With a crazy freedom, this book commits us to travel, the kind of travels which extend the night and make worlds resonate.
