Cartography : the beautiful unfaithful
Various modes of representation -catalogs, statistics…- attempt to draw up a world on a small scale but remain essentially accurate. Others, which should be taken into account, integrate a form of creation in their very technique of representation. They try to describe and enrich the world at once.
Some of these cartographies -the sociology of the imaginary, for instance- use myth, image, and metaphor to map out a territory. These minor arrangements with objective reality are sometimes better expressions of everyday experience.
