Compagnonnage Horizones #4 « Agenda » July 8, 2022 from 6pm to 9pm
For the 23rd Pernod Ricard Foundation Award, Elsa Werth has created a new multiple, which will be unveiled at the Horizones Film Club on July 7 and 8, 2022. Unveiled, or rather transmitted from hand to hand on the occasion of a furtive transaction as the artist likes them.
Entitled Agenda, the new edition of Elsa Werth proposes the rule of an everyday game: « Flip the coin everyday ». It consists of flipping a coin each morning to decide whether our day will be off or on, thus allowing chance to redefine our relationship to time and productivity. On one side, the inscription MONDAY, followed by WORK TODAY, urges us to work. On the other side, SUNDAY, followed by DO NOT WORK TODAY, calls for free time. The week thus redefined by chance becomes dynamic.
In a society that values productivity and growth, this work attempts to create a breach, an irrational path in an increasingly standardized and framed daily life. Taking the appearance of a coin, Agenda refers to the current financialization of social relations. It invites us to position ourselves in relation to the use of our time, to consumption, to growth or degrowth.
No doubt that Agenda will find itself, in one way or another, furtive, present in September for the exhibition Horizones!
