Conversation Pieces

«Nothing had happened since a painful breakup. We contemplated it from a jetty. We kept turning over its torments in a small book that minutely went through the end of this short-lived love story, now that it had nothing left of a romance and oscillated between forgiveness and resentment, bitterness and relief, with one promise to repair the damage following another until fate prevailed. This private affair had been made public in a tactful manner. Then it was something else: the state of things, the regret left by another breakup, that between contemporary art and love, which unlike the other one could never be accepted. But since few breakups can truly be fixed, since alienated lovers rarely get a second chance, what could be done? How not to persist in error and sew the pieces back together between these two ex-lovers? To adjust a form to each being, or rather (since Gérald Petit sought to listen to, look at, admire, stage so many of these beings), to adjust a form suitable for his encounter with this man, this woman, with people experiencing a feeling, a passion, an accident even… Could we then wonder what Gérald Petit has ceaselessly returned to, not always in a noticeable manner (including to himself), because of or thanks to his habit of not applying his own formal touch, but instead, of always sharing the work with interlocutors?»
