Engagé dans le paysage

Friday 26 November 2010 at 7 pm

Conferences directed by Jérôme Mauche.

Environments of a language abandoned or to reinvent, politics of spaces and genres, mixes of idioms and practices, biodiversities, wastelands, houses, shelters and forms of resistance: these may be some of the interests shared by Gilles Clément and Anne Parian, the guests of Jérôme Mauche for this new installment of Poetry Platform.

BIOGRAPHIES

Gilles CLÉMENT

Gilles Clément is a horticultural engineer, a landscaper, a gardener and a writer. He teaches at the École Nationale Supérieure du Paysage in Versailles. A creator of parks and gardens, he has designed and laid out numerous public or private spaces since 1972, in France and abroad, on his own or as part of collaborations: the Parc André-Citroën in Paris, the Parc Matisse at Euralille, the gardens of the Blois castle, the Domaine du Rayol, the Musée du Quai Branly, the ENS-LSH in Lyons… His theoretical and practical research work focuses on three areas: « the garden in movement, » whose model might be the wasteland, « the global garden, » which considers the diversity of ecosystems humans are responsible for, and the « third landscape, » which emphasizes transitional spaces. However, his thinking over the past few years has also led him to experiment with « gardens of resistance. »
He has authored many books, including Contributions à l’étude du jardin planétaire [« Contributions to the Study of the Global Garden »] with Michel Blazy (École régionale des Beaux-arts de Valence, 1995); Traité succinct de l’art involontaire (Sens &Tonka, 1997); Éloge des vagabondes (Nil, 2002); Où en est l’herbe? (« Where’s the Grass At? » Actes Sud, 2006); Le Jardin en mouvement. De la vallée au jardin planétaire (« The Garden in Movement: From the Valley to the Global Garden, » Sens & Tonka, 2007); Nuages (« Clouds, » Bayard, 2005); Dans la vallée. Biodiversité, art, paysage, entretiens avec Gilles A. Tiberghien (« In the Valley: Biodiversity, Art, Landscape, Conversations with Gilles A. Tiberghien, » Bayard, 2009); Le Salon des berces (« The Hogweed Room, » Nil, 2009).

Anne PARIAN

Anne Parian is an all-out poet – all-out in the sense that with her, writing can assume the form of photography, video, intervention as well as narrative, text, or an editorial activity. Her poetry runs through these practices and wholly involves them. She is the author of À la recherche du lieu de ma naissance (« In Search of My Birthplace, » cipM, 1994); Abracadabra (Rup&Rud, 1999); F.nom de ville (« F. City Name, » Au figuré, 2000); A.F.O.N.S. (Théâtre typographique, 2002); Untel (« So and So, » Contrat main, 2005); Monospace (P.O.L, 2007); = jonchée (« = strewn over, » Les petits matins, 2008); Une ligne (« A Line, » Éric Pesty Éditeur, 2008). ?She works regularly with artist Franck David, participating for example in the catalog for his exhibit at the Musée d’art moderne et contemporain de Strasbourg in 2004 or exhibiting with him at the Galerie chez Valentin. In 2008 she designed a multilingual workshop at the Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers, bringing together men and women who might not share a common language. Monospace is the constitution of a garden through a book.

Jérôme MAUCHE

Writer Jérôme Mauche teaches at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Lyon and has published a dozen books, including La loi des rendements décroissants [« The Law of Decreasing Yields »] (Seuil: Paris, 2007), Le placard en flammes [« The Burning Closet »] and Le bleu du ciel [« The Blue of the Sky »] (2009). He has organized events involving speech in its oral, written and intermediate forms: readings at the Musée Zadkine à Paris, discussions at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, Encyclopédie de la parole at the Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers, writing/reading/improvisation workshop at La Ménagerie de Verre. He also is the editor of the collection Les Grands Soirs at the Éditions des Petits Matins and has served as a co-curator for historic modern art exhibits in several museums in France.
