Inauguration of TEMPLATE by Nicolas Chardon
Fully integrated into the architecture, the entrance to the Pernod Ricard Foundation allows artists to hang a painting there for a period of two years. The work TEMPLATE, by Nicolas Chardon, now replaces the Hommage à Prévert by Vera Molnar (1924-2023) on the pediment of Café Mirette, at the entrance to the Pernod Ricard Foundation
Discussion between Nicolas Chardon and Vincent Baby
At Café Mirette
On the occasion of this inauguration, the art historian Vincent Baby will speak with the artist about his practice and his work TEMPLATE.
Nicolas Chardon, about TEMPLATE: “The place of my painting is the canvas. My work is based first of all on the observation of what constitutes it materially; the frame and the canvas attached to it. But this canvas is special. Indeed, my supports are made of gingham, madras or tartan fabrics, all colorful orthogonal canvases. The grid pattern of my paintings, distorted by
tension, is both an elementary physical expression and a particular image. Something is at play there, between the material fact and the iconic fact. Paradoxically, the deformation of the grid is proof that the canvas is well stretched, that it thus offers the ideal flat surface for creating a painting. My painting begins at that moment."
