Le Troisième paradis
Patrick Javault is welcoming Michelangelo Pistoletto.
Michelangelo Pistoletto is one of the major figures of contemporary art. With his mirror-paintings, and later with a series of exhibitions and events between theater and public action, he laid some of the foundations for what was to become Arte povera in the Turin of the 1960s. In 1965 he realized the Minus Objects, a series of works without stylistic unity that marked a rejection of signature and represented a liberation for him. This was also a way to respond to a doctrine of productivity in art issuing from an American model. Exhibited again from the 1990s on, the Minus Objects keep influencing new generations of artists.
In 1998 he created the foundation « Cittadellarte, » a genuine laboratory where experts, artists and scholars work to promote « a responsible transformation of society through the generative function of art. » He is also one of the founders of « Love Difference, » an artistic movement for an inter-Mediterreanean politics. Since the Ultime parole famose in 1967, we know that writing is not a secondary activity for Pistoletto, but an essential part of his artistic practice. With the publication of The Third Paradise today, he assesses the state of things and invites each of us to take part in the transformation of this « planetary garden. » On the eve of the opening of Evento in Bordeaux, a biennale of contemporary creation for which he serves as art director, we have the opportunity to hear Michelangelo Pistoletto, artist, writer, and spokesman.
