Les Tapuscrits

Tuesday 17 September 2013 at 7 pm

On the occasion of the publication of Bernard Heidsieck – Les Tapuscrits (Villa Arson – Presses du Réel), the Fondation d’entreprise Ricard is hosting an evening devoted to this major contemporary poet.

In the mid-1950s, Bernard Heidsieck decided to break away from written poetry and take it out of the book. Rather than what he called a “passive poetry,” he privileged an “active poetry,” one that could “stand.” Starting in 1955, he was one of the creators of Poésie Sonore. Poésie Action followed in 1962. As early as 1959, he used the tape recorder as a complementary instrument in his writing and its diffusion, opening his research to new fields of experimentation.

His lasting attachment to semantics did not prevent him from emancipating his writing from the constraints of language, whose formal dimensions he thoroughly explored—through the spatialization of the text, the scores he wrote or his bodily presence in space. With Heidsieck, sound assumes a plastic dimension thanks to an outstanding diction founded on the breath, a perfect articulation, or the inflections of the voice, ceaselessly renewed.

A number of sound works by the artist will be heard alongside interventions by scheduled guests: Eric Mangion, director, Villa Arson (Nice); author and stage director Hubert Colas, who also heads the Act’Oral festival (Marseille); poet and musician Anne-James Chaton; and Franck Gautherot, co-director, Les Presses du Réel and Le Consortium (Dijon).
