In the library of Achille Mbembe

Friday 12 March 2021 at 6 pm

During 80 years, the BBC has broadcast « Desert Island Discs » every week, a wonderful program whose principle is simple: a guest comments on the eight pieces or musical extracts that he or she would choose, if any, to bring on a desert island. It is this same principle that AOC wanted to transpose to books by offering a guest coming from the worlds of culture, the arts or knowledge to choose ten books that he or she would take on board on a desert island – a situation of extreme confinement.

Achille Mbembe is a professor of history and political science at Wits University (Johannesburg) and a researcher at the Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research (WISER). Winner of the 2018 Ernst Bloch prize, he is the author of Out of the Dark Night (2021 [2010]), Critique of Black Reason (2017 [2013]), Politiques de l’inimitié (2016) and Brutalisme (2020).
