Maxime Bondu Monography

Tuesday 13 September 2016 at 7 pm

With the curator and art critic Daniel Kurjakovic, autor of monograph.

« Regards dans la surface réfléchissante du rétroviseur. Information, spéculation et probabilité dans l’œuvre de Maxime Bondu. »

“Maxime Bondu’s work, with its idiosyncratic, artisanal, experimental and speculative mix of interests and approaches reflects (…) his ongoing sensory exploration of the world’s possibilities and his renewal of it on different levels and in different contexts. His work portrays the virtualised and labyrinthine aspects of the information age, not as terrifying spectres but as so many new opportunities to drill down into areas which seemed to us already known, exhausted, worn-out and devoid of any substance, and about which there was apparently nothing more to say.” Daniel Kurjakovic.

The first monograph dedicated to the work of Maxime Bondu (*1985), Glances in the Reflecting Surface of the Rear-view Mirror, includes an essay by Daniel Kurjakovic and an analysis of nine of the artist’s key installations exploring alternative readings of the world, history and society. Drawings, sketches, models, archival material and exhibition views illuminate his experimental and speculative work. The graphic design style makes oblique reference to the Information Exhibition catalogue, published by Kynaston L. McShine, New York: The Museum of Modern Art, 1970.

Maxime Bondu won the Picker Prize for artists, offering a first edition monograph organised the Geneva-based aparté, founded in 2007, an organisation which promotes emerging artists. www.art-emergent.ch
