Magali Desbazeille / Pas du tout satisfait, plutôt satisfait, tout à fait satisfait

You will finally know everything about the quantification of feelings in our large institutions! How do the UN, Eurostat, the INSEE and the OECD measure our morale, our satisfaction, our happiness and even the meaning we give to our lives? Based on extensive data, Magali Desbazeille invites you right into the heart of the methodologies and statistics that scan and analyse us: the UN’s World Happiness Report, the INSEE’s satisfaction survey, the Eurostat database—the performer examines her whole collection of documents and archives from her treadmill-desk, because in order to be happy and healthy, one must walk!

Conceived, directed and performed by: Magali Desbazeille, External viewpoint, playwriting: Julie Valero, OpenData visualisation: Sébastien Courvoisier, Graphic design: Adrien Tison, Production: Maison Populaire de Montreuil with support from DICRéAM (CNC)/Ministry of Culture

Laurence Vauthier / Performance Consulting

Seated at my consulting desk, I ask the following question: what would be your advice for becoming a super-artist? This performance takes the form of individual interviews. The tips come one after another, all different. Whereas some recommend ever-more audacity, others encourage perseverance. For Partitions (performances), I will share a sample of the advice I have received.

Magali Desbazeille (1971) is an artist-performer. She mixes documentary and fiction, new technologies and bricolage. Her projects have been presented in France and abroad, at the Kunsteverein Tigergarten in Berlin, the Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers, the Terrasse in Nanterre, the Maison Populaire and Le 116 in Montreuil, the Motorenhalle in Dresden, the Saatchi Galery in London with Hermès, La Panacée in Montpellier, the Centre des Arts in Enghien-les-bains, the Show Off art fair in Paris, the library at the Centre Pompidou… She recently completed a public commission at the education offices in Lille as part of the Percent for Art programme. After having worked on the quantification of feelings by our large institutions (considering the question of how the UN, Eurostat and the INSEE measure our morals, our happiness and the meaning that we give to life), she is currently exploring the rituals that accompany all possible evaluations: prize-giving ceremonies, with medals and trophies…

Laurence Vauthier (1993) is a graduate of Villa Arson and is represented by Un-spaced gallery.

Currently based in Paris, she strives to introduce the “high-performance” discourse of companies and management into the field of contemporary art: she links forms of self-motivation with management coaching sessions, and the creation of a consulting desk, playing with artistic forms of performance, but also with conceptual and relational art.

Her work has been shown at Nuit Blanche 2019, at the Frac Champagne-Ardenne in Reims, at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris, at A Performance Affair in Brussels, and at the Centre Pompidou as part of the Festival Extra !.
