Pauline Simon / Valentin Lewandowski
This first show of the sixth season of Partitions (Performances) takes us on a journey through two systems of learning and seeking knowledge. One works via an internship with Flammarion, one of Paris’s largest publishing houses, and the other through an exploration of Google’s worldwide network.
Pauline Simon / Serendipity
Serendipity is a connected object. It takes the form of a performance for a typing “performer”, who creates a serendipitous discourse generated from Google’s autocompleted search engine suggestions. The content of this discourse therefore changes somewhat over time and even in accordance with Google’s geo-localisation feature. The semi-random algorithm, and the role which chance, whether fictional or real, plays here, are used as a way of inducing our acceptance of the improbable, and as a kind of ideal stream-of-consciousness generator, creating a form of expression which is part sociology, part poetry.
Pauline Simon is a dancer, performer and choreographer. She studied Contemporary Dance at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de la Musique et de la Danse in Paris. In 2012, she won the Danse Elargie competition organised by Boris Charmatz and has been involved in a number of performances. Her work crosses over from contemporary art to contemporary dance and she has recently produced a number of choreographic projects including Postérieur (Le Futur n’existe pas, mais des Futures Insistent) recently performed at Les Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers. Designed and performed by Pauline Simon with the help of Google. With the watchful assistance of Corentin Le Flohic, Elise Simonet and Johann Maheut. With thanks to Sandra Iché. Produced with the support of LIEUES, the Ménagerie de Verre and the Théâtre de la cité Internationale.
Valentin Lewandowski / Flammarion
Valentin Lewandowski’s work is based on analysing the act of speaking and the different registers of speech. Flammarion is a spoken word performance of the internship report of a Flammarion press attaché which recreates the daily panorama of his open-plan office.
Valentin Lewandowski was born in Paris in 1989. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales. He has performed his pieces for exhibitions such as Poppositions Off Fair (Brass, Brussels, 2013), Achievement (Palais des Beaux-Arts, 2013) and D’autres Possibles (Pavillon Vendôme, Clichy, 2016). In 2015, he took part in La Voix Humaine performance cycle (Church of Saint-Eustache, Paris), the 6th Un Nouveau Festival (Pompidou Centre, Paris) and the En Scène events held as part of the FIAC art fair 2015 (Cité de la Mode et du Design, Paris).
