« Le bruit de la langue », 2022
Performance by Magali Léger (soprano) and Camille Llobet (visual artist)
« Le bruit de la langue », is a two-voice performance, an experiment stemming from a long-term research on prosody, which is inflection, tonality, accent, modulation and rhythm of our words.
In 2018, we worked with soprano Magali Léger on reproducing – in adult voice – the first vocal productions of my daughter Alice (between 10 and 20 months, just before words). This filmed experimentation resulted in the video « Majelich » (2018), as well as the « Sonagrammes Comparés », (2020) and the scores « Alice », an edition (2020) and a wall score (Centre Pompidou Metz, 2022).
This performance extends the reflection on the meaning of the sound of oral language. When we speak, the words expressed sometimes have less meaning than the sound of the voice which accelerates, slows down, stops abruptly, presses on a syllable or softens.
By listening in a loop to a series of significant and extremely short excerpts from a recorded conversation, we will reproduce the sounds of our respective words, in the manner of a child who listens, reproduces and experiments with the prosodic contours of the language before understanding and formulating words », Camille Llobet
