Postmodern Radicalities: from Revolution to Rebellions

Wednesday 17 June 2009 at 7 pm

Postmodern Radicalities: from Revolution to Rebellions will be the next theme of Calls to Imagination, and will bring together Michel Maffesoli, Patrick Tacussel, journalist Christophe Bourseiller, the author of À gauche toute [« To the Left! »], recently published by the Éditions du CNRS, and Gérard Desportes, a cofounder of independent news website Mediapart.
The starting point of the exchange will be the following issue: may the emergence of new social radicalities (multiple youth rebellions, holdings of company directors, various initiatives of punk, autonomous, or anarchistic tribes) be interpreted from a political standpoint, should it be considered as the resurgence of an old phenomenon, or is it the sign of a deep change in values? Such a change in values could be the manifestation of a cultural subversion, that of life as ADVENTURE which was able to find its origins in different movements such as Dadaism, Surrealism, and above all Situationism. The debate will thus provide an opportunity to question these « riots without reason, » or with multiple causes, which will likely punctuate social life more and more in the future.
