A solo exhibition of  Sergio Verastegui.

The series of works created by Sergio Verastegui and grouped in the How project is structured fromimages and elements that reflect a state of emergency and crisis. Free falling, in the context of areality where we have lost our humanity, seduced by the possibilities of mass production of everyobject we could imagine, we wander and look for shelter, peeking through emergency windows. InHow, Verastegui builds an uncanny atmosphere. We are suspended inside an aircraft, falling – we areIcarus losing his wings after the ecstasy of elevation, we wander in the immediate vicinities of acatastrophe that has just occurred.

Springing from elements of post-industrial consumer society and of a decomposed nature the worksin How derive from an interpretation linked to phenomenology and to a certain « attentiveness » tomaterials. Forms result from the composition of elements rather than from modification of materials.Verastegui often uses a combination of utilitarian objects, industrial scrap and natural, organic ormineral elements as it is the case in the series of sculptures Birth, 2019, and in Ecdysis, 2019.

Mindful of the creative process, Verastegui finds new combinations for found elements assembledin a choreography of pieces, creating a suspended environment that offers a “spatial understanding”of the work. He utters the questions of his time in order to elicit extremely powerful and poetic formalresults.
