L'Emerveillement abrupt

The Galerie Christophe Gaillard is pleased to organised the 1st solo exhibition on the work of the artiste Pierre Tal Coat, in collaboration with
Jean-Pascal Léger.

Featured among a selection of the artist’s essential work from the 1970s
will be the very rare Bleu surgi that was rediscovered at the Musée Granet in 2017, and the distinctively illuminated small formats from his later
period that are the epitome of the artist’s exploration of the freshness
of colour.

For several years the gallery has supported the work of this celebrated
artist, and today it is proud to represent it exclusively.
Pierre Tal Coat (1905-1985) left behind a remarkable legacy of paintings, etchings and sculptures admired by the greatest artists and poets
of the twentieth century. From his figurative and expressionist beginnings to the audacious abstract pieces of his later years, Tal Coat worked to render the underlying harmony between painting and nature in
the space, matter, light and colour of his paintings, a pictorial quest he
constantly revisited, with utter freedom.
Tal Coat’s work has been shown in major museums across the world as
well as at the Kassel documentas I and II, the Venice Biennale, the Grand
Palais in Paris and the São Paulo Art Biennial. The work can be seen in
France, namely at the Musée National d’Art Moderne-Centre Georges
Pompidou and the Musée d’art moderne de la Ville in Paris, the Musée Granet in Aix-en-Provence, the Musée Picasso in Antibes, the Musée
Cantini in Marseille and the Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul-de-Vence,
and abroad, at the Royal Museums of Fine Art of Belgium, the Musée des
Beaux-Arts in Mons and the Museum of Modern Art in New York…
