L'Avancée Nino Kapanadze
L’Avancée is a hanging surface dedicated to emerging artists and a way of extending the exhibition space into the living space. During the year 21-22, the Pernod Ricard Foundation is partnering with the Ecole des Beaux-arts de Paris and the « métiers de l’exposition » program. Every month, from October to July, a student is invited to take over the wall and to accompany his or her work with an exchange with the public.
Nino Kapanadze is an artist and a painter born in 1990. Holding a diploma from Tbilisi State Academy of Arts and the Paris Institute of Political Studies, she is currently enrolled in the 4th year study at Beaux-Arts de Paris, in the studio of Stéphane Calais.
« I am interested in painting practice not as in a medium of image creation, not in a surface but in a space where I can develop a conversation, confront my own approaches and most importantly ask questions about contemporary painting. Such space is a conflict zone between universal and personal, abstraction and figuration, truth and beauty. I’m not interested in a factual truth of the pictorial world but in total truth that comes as an agglomeration of perceptions. It is not always necessary to solve the conflicts, currently my work feeds on this conflict zone. »
Horse Race, 2022
‘THE ENERGY THAT TANSFORMS VULTURES INTO
BEAUTIFUL BLACK RACE HORSES’ (R. Brautigan)
and that
‘THE WORLD SEEMED ROUNDER AND FIERCER AND I WAS HAPPIER BECAUSE
I WASN’T SCARED OF FALLING OFF, NOR OFF THE HORSES, THE HORSES!
TO THE HELL WITH THE HORSES, BAY AND BLACK’ (F. O’Hara)
About distant childhood memory,
About beautiful Caucasian tradition of mountain horse race,
Green grass and blue sky change tonalities through speed, kinetic energy
accumulating heat, surpassing horizons, surpassing possibilities.
Human on horse taking up on the world, speed of civilization for more than 5,000 years.
Landscape as a background stays intact while I encode Georgian word for HORCE RACE,
დოღი in a repetitive, overlaid manner,
word becomes a drawing,
drawing becomes movement,
movement becomes energy.”
