< input > with Lili Reynaud-Dewar
On the occasion of this new INPUT meeting, Julien Bécourt receives Lili Reynaud-Dewar. Here is the rebroadcast of the meeting on Wednesday January 17, 2024 at the Pernod Ricard Foundation.
LILI REYNAUD-DEWAR
Heiress of postmodernism, which consists of conceiving the creative process as the connection of a profusion of references torn from any cultural hierarchy, Lili Reynaud-Dewar is reincarnated with each exhibition in one or more artists with whom she identifies and with whom she reactivates thought, using a mimetic process. Sun Ra, Jean Genet, Guillaume Dustan, Ettore Sottsass, Joséphine Baker, Donna Harraway, Adrian Piper, Lee Lozano, Andrea Fraser and today Pier Paolo Pasolini have all been his creative companions (and roommates). The status of the artist seems to her close to that of a copyist monk, a claimed copy and paste, in the way that Kathy Acker “hacked” in her texts the writers who had preceded her. We must therefore imagine Lili Reynaud-Dewar not as an inspired demiurge who would bring about ex-nihilo forms – this myth of the artist that she strives to dismantle – but rather as the “active principle” of a sequel. of revolutionary actions forged by minorities and countercultures long despised by the institution, here put into perspective and reactivated in the present. Don't count on her to present reified works of art, everything here is fluid and volatile, like a work in progress where the word would be queen and would comment on its own evolving status.
