Charlotte Durand
Charlotte Durand uses the codes of the performing arts to reflect on the performativity of cultural codes as a vector of assignment to the social classes in which she evolves. The objects she creates are in turn the set design and props for her performances, then autonomous sculptures. These artifacts result from the hybridization of two sides of the same environment: on the one hand, the fantasy and wonder inherent in the Auvergne landscapes in which she grew up, and on the other, the socio-economic reality of these rural industrial spaces. Her performances and their devices blur the boundary that would dissociate the staged rural environment from the intellectual sphere in which the performance unfolds; the whole producing an in-between world, the one in which Charlotte situates herself.
