Sometimes it's a small thing, but for us it's huge: as part of the “Crumbling the Antiseptic Beauty” exhibition, Mélody Lu, one of the featured artists, offers a Fanzine workshop.
First appearing in the 1930s in the United States, self-published Fanzines were initially created by enthusiasts for other enthusiasts. They were born out of a strong desire to share and connect with others around a common passion: initially associated with science fiction, the practice then spread to comics and poetry, and became a political and militant alternative means of spreading the word. During this workshop, participants will be invited to form a small group and create their first fanzine on their chosen theme. This workshop will be an opportunity for them to experiment with drawing, writing and DIY (Do It Yourself) publishing, and to question the notion of collective creation.
