Louis Chaumier

Born in Paris in 1995, Louis lives and works between Paris and Genillé (Indre et Loire), where his studio is based.
Louis Chaumier's installations and sculptures form poetic landscapes born of the trivial and the ordinary. Excavating gaps in the norm that are full of possibilities, they are the fruit of formal research based on standardised furniture and everyday objects that, once removed and isolated from their initial contexts, form spaces that are as disquieting, melancholy as they are warm. Never silent, though discreet, these structures vibrate and let us hear the echoes of fictitious worlds, the sizzling murmurs of neon lights and technical elements whose singularities the artist admires. As we walk through them, we have to suspend our disbelief and allow ourselves to be carried away by the idea that the objects exhibited here are alive. Places of passage, even portals to unknown dimensions, these liminal spaces invite us to inhabit the void, to allow ourselves to be carried along by the indefinable movements that brush against our consciousness as we pass through them.
The 2021 graduate of ENSAD has exhibited at Galerie Jean-Collet (Vitry-sur-Seine), Magma Maria (Offenbach am Main, 2023), l'Onde centre d'art (Vélizy, 2023) and Bétonsalon (Paris, 2021).
