Patrick Javault
Patrick Javault was born in Garches, France in 1960. After his studies in Literatore at Univeresity-Paris IV-Sorbonne, he was soon one of the founding members of the European-Latin American review Bicéphale in 1980 and subsequently became Editor-in-chief of Artistes from 1982-1983.
Following this path Patrick Javault has actively pursued art criticism and regularly collaborates with Art Press. He has additionally been entrusted with alongside Bastien Gallet to oversee the programming of music and performance poetry for the first of edition of The Force of Art.
In 1990, he joined Jean de Loisy at The Fondation Cartier and commissioned several exhibitions including La Vitesse and A Visage Découvert. Between 1998 and 2008, Javault additionally curated at The Museum of Modern and Contemorary Art in Strasbourg and commissioned the exhibitions Video Topiques in 2002, Hyperréalismes with Jean-Claude
Lebensztejn in 2003, and Xavier Velhan in 2006. In tandem with his curatorial practices Patrick Javault has quite literally programmed hundreds of unprecedented and unparalleled events each year in various museums.
After dedicating 10 years to the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Strasbourg, Javault has decided to return to art criticism and independent curating. He has been responsible for ‘Conversations on Art’ at Fondation d’Enterprise Ricard for several years.
