Rosa Joly

Born in France in 1986, Rosa Joly lives and works between Berlin, Paris and New York.
She is a graduate of ENSBA Lyon and the HFBK in Hamburg. Her artistic practice is multidisciplinary, and her installations most often combine sculptures and films, as well as photographs, drawings and assemblages. Her eminently analogue approach is imbued with a Do It Yourself or experimental spirit, fuelled by ongoing research that leads her to enter into discussion with the works of artists who have preceded and inspired her. These include Jay DeFeo, a Californian artist who inspired́ her latest film Auf dem Zahnfleisch (2023), and Chantal Akerman. Her work has been shown at the Kunstverein Bielefeld, the MEP (Paris), The Film Gallery (Paris), Scheusal (Berlin), MOM Artspace (Hamburg), the Falckenberg Collection (Harburg), the Kunsthaus Hamburg, DOC! (Paris) and La Traverse (Marseille). Rosa Joly is currently a resident at 99 Canal in New York and took part in the Triangle-Astérides programme in Marseille in 2021. In the autumn of the same year she took part in the creation of Scheusal, an independent exhibition space in Berlin.
