Tolia Astakhishvili
Born in 1974 in Tbilisi, Tolia Astakhishvili works and lives between Berlin and Tbilisi.
His artistic practice extends to sculpture, drawing, painting, sound, video and writing. Her architectural environments, which incorporate these different media, are designed in dialogue with the exhibition space. They evoke spaces in transformation, like an unfinished building site whose origin and completion remain undefined. Everyday objects, drawings, photographs, wall inscriptions and videos suggest a diffuse human presence. Together they weave a fictional narrative imbued with a psychological dimension, sometimes tinged with surrealism. In 2025, her work will be shown at the Nicoletta Fiorucci Foundation in Venice, curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, and in The Gatherers at MoMA PS1, New York.
