Horizones (Diary) – Episode 6
Last screening before the exhibition
The idea for the Horizones Cine-Club came to me on Friday, October 22, 2021, during the presentation of the 22nd Pernod Ricard Foundation Prize to Boris Kurdi. That evening, only two people knew that I was already concocting the program to come: Colette Barbier and myself. It was an exhilarating feeling. Starting the summer and embodying the end of the companionship period with an open-air cinema on the esplanade of the foundation imposed itself on me: deckchairs, ice cream and a collective experience. Opened with the « musterclasses » in January, extended by the individual desires of each artist between May and September (some are still to come), the companionship crystallizes before the vacations by an event conceived together to draw a portrait of Horizones. Last session before the exhibition…
It remained to finalize the program. For the big screen projections, two choral films, very different in their aesthetics and issues, follow one another around a common motif: the staging and testing of group dynamics. Roberto Rossellini’s masterpiece The Eleven Fioretti of Francis of Assisi (1951) seems to me to be a good way of saying something about the experience of a companionship, including the conditions of exit. I’ll stop here, so as not to divulge anything. Mati Diop’s fable Atlantic (2019), where the horizon and the border between the dead and the living, beliefs and economic realities are driving forces, promises a weightless evening, where the thrills of desire and fear seem like the flip sides of the same coin.
In the auditorium, we will broadcast in loop films and videos of artists chosen by Hélène, Timothée, Fabiana, Eva, Benoît and Elsa. Affinity and the desire to share were the only criteria for this program which includes Carla Adra, Olivier Bémer, Ayrson Heráclito, Eduardo Paolozzi, Marc Petitjean and Gordon Matta-Clark, Aldéric Trevel and Clément Villiers.
At the end of these evenings, everyone will leave, I hope, not only with eyes full of images, discoveries and sensations but also with a pocket full of Elsa Werth’s new multiple. For her companionship, she has created Agenda, a stealth transaction piece that allows you to replay your schedule every day. Here again, I won’t say more. As far as the schedule is concerned, there is only one date to note on the agenda: Monday, September 5, 2022, opening of the exhibition Horizones, 23rd Prize of the Fondation Pernod Ricard.
