Fiction / Performed readings #1
The Fondation d’entreprise Ricard is launching a new program, « Fiction/Lectures performées, » a proposition by exhibition curators and art critics Christian Alandete et Agnès Violeau, who are also the founders of the periodical « J’aime beaucoup ce que vous faites? » [« I like your work a lot? »].
The proposition constitutes an experimental lab on the text, which is approached in its oral dimension and its plasticity, bringing together artists from different fields (visual arts, choreography, writing, performance). Each event questions a singular relation to reading and literature.
For the first edition on February 18, Christian Alandete and Agnès Violeau are presenting two new creations: the first, performed by Noémie Churlet, is by Pierre Bismuth, whose work humorously attempts to destabilize reading codes.
For the second creation, Danielle Mémoire, who has published numerous novels at the Editions POL, has teamed up with Steve Arguelles, an instrumentalist, producer, polymorphous experimenter, who is also the founder of record label Plush.
Pierre BISMUTH
Born in 1963 in France.
Lives and works in New York and Brussels
Pierre Bismuth uses artistic practice as means of investigation into our perception of reality, and more particularly our relation to cultural productions. His work attempts, through humor and with limited means, to destabilize reading codes so that the spectator can regain a position of incredulity, even towards these elements of our culture most taken for granted. Bismuth’s approach rests on the idea that the perception of things can be changed by simply manipulating the way they are usually defined. His project is a creation for the Fondation and its Fiction/Lectures performées program.
Danielle MÉMOIRE
Born in 1947.
Lives and works in Paris.
For the past few years, Danielle Mémoire has embarked on a vast literary undertaking in which each novel partakes of a larger whole called « corpus. » She has published 14 books at Editions POL, including « Laissez Baude buissonner » [« let Baude bush »] (2005), « Les Enfances Corpus » [« Corpus childhoods »] (2003), « Modèle réduit » [« small-scale model »] (1999), « Lecture publique suivie d’un débat » [« public reading followed by a debate »] (1994), and more recently « Prunus spinosa » (2006).
Steve ARGUELLES
Born in 1963 in Birmingham (UK).
Lives and works in Paris.
An instrumentalist, producer, and polymorphous experimenter, Steve Arguelles was trained as a choreographic drummer, moving from pulsative jazz to free improvisation to the latest electronic advances to the design of soundscapes. He regularly works with authors and musicians (Ambitronix, Marcelline Delbecq, Olivier Cadiot…). He is the founder of record label Plush.
« Fiction » is Danielle Mémoire and Steve Arguelles’s first joint project.
