Once a month, art-agenda publishes a Meta text, in collaboration with TextWork.
Meta is a text about a text, writing about writing. Meta is a glimpse at how writing takes place: where it begins, unfolds, and what it generates. Meta is a new collaboration between art-agenda and TextWork, the editorial platform of the Fondation d’entreprise Ricard in partnership with the French Ministry of Culture, dedicated to commissioning longform essays on contemporary artists. Once a month, art-agenda publishes a Meta text, in collaboration with TextWork. It is an occasion for the authors of the original monographic essays to revisit the experience, challenges, and joys of writing about art. The first Meta, “What to fall back on” invites Rachel Valinksy to reflect on her monographic essay on Eva Barto‘s work.
The launch of this collaboration will be held at the Fondation at 7pm on 20th June 2019, with a panel discussion:
“Readers of the world, unite!”
Dedicated to publish writing about art, art-agenda and Textwork come together to discuss how art is read. This encounter will look at the relation between reading, writing and publishing about contemporary art. It will reflect on how reading creates communities, produces debate and generates opinions. It will consider how reading balances between attention and distraction. It will discuss different modes of reading and look at how connectivity and digital interfaces challenged, transformed and invented a different, new readership.
There have been so many talks about art writing. It’s understood that criticism will always be alive, dead and surviving elsewhere. The hows and the whys of art writing will continue to dwell between hermeneutics and affects, aesthetics and ethics, clarity and poetry. The future of publishing will be written between online and print, grants and advertisement, independence and duration.
Now is the time to talk about reading, that gesture which brings authors, critics, editors, artists and curators together. As readers, we unite.
