Monica Heller presents her project for the 59 Venice Biennale at Fondation Pernod Ricard.
The projection of El origen de la substancia importará la importancia del origen (The importance of the origin will be imported by the origin of the substance) will be followed by a discussion between the artista and Liv Schulman.
Mónica Heller (born in 1975 in Buenos Aires) is a designer, painter and video artist. Throughout her twenty-year career, she has created 2D and 3D animations, using both amateur production strategies and CGI models from free and open source libraries. The self-taught nature of her approach to digital technology and the artisanal dedication she puts into each of her pieces have laid the foundation for a DIY work ethic that characterizes and singularizes both her varied production and her place in the Argentine art scene.
Her work has been exhibited individually and collectively in Buenos Aires, Rosario, Salta, San Martín de los Andes, Tucumán, Barcelona, Santiago de Chile, London, Lyon, Budapest, San Pablo and Berlin, among other cities. Among the many awards she has received in recent years are: the first prize of Fundación Andreani (2017), the Stimulus Prize of the 72nd Salón Nacional de Rosario Castagnino + Macro (2017) and the third prize of Fundación Fortabat (2021). She is a member of the experimental drawing collective « Geometría Pueblo Nuevo », along with other Argentine artists. She participated in the first edition of the artists’ program of the University Torcuato Di Tella.
