MOSTYN, Wales UK is delighted to announce a solo exhibition by French artist Camille Blatrix, produced in collaboration with Fondation d’entreprise Ricard, Paris.
In 2014 Blatrix was awarded the prestigious Prize Fondation d’entreprise Ricard, which annually awards a monetary prize to an emerging French artist whose work has been exhibited at the Foundation’s space in Paris as part of an exhibition organized by a freelance curator (“TheTimes,Moods,Values,Attention” curated by castillo / corrales).
The Prize involves the purchase of a work of the winner, which is then presented as a gift to the Centre Pompidou and featured in the permanent collections of the Musée National d’Art Moderne. Blatrix’s work “Place Georges-Pompidou, 75004” was purchased by the Foundation, and then donated to the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
The Foundation wished to honour the artist with, in addition to the award, a solo show outside France.
The exhibition, the first showing for Blatrix in the UK, presents entirely new work by the artist and responds, in part, to his visit to MOSTYN and the town of Llandudno in 2014. The trip reminded him of childhood memories and of returning from a large city to a smaller town to visit family and friends. For the show, Blatrix has invited his parents to present their own work (his mother is a ceramicist and his father is a former artist), which reflects the feelings that arose during his visit to MOSTYN. In so doing, the exhibition comes to discuss issues of biography, influence, upbringing and artistic career.
This exhibition is curated by Alfredo Cramerotti (MOSTYN Director).
