Different views on the young French art scene

Saturday 24 October 2009 at 2:30 pm

» Young » and « French » are the two words in the title of this event that will serve as the themes for discussion and conceivably controversy. Age and geographical location are criteria only reluctantly appealed to in attempting to understand artists and their work. If they are less liable than in the past to provoke indignation and virtuous rejection, they nonetheless need to be handled with care and properly contextualised if they are to make that highly restricted contribution that can be theirs. The exhibition Archipels thus offers a valuable opportunity for reflection: through the work of the winners of the Ricard Foundation Prize it offers a distinctive look at a decade of artistic creation and a very particular interaction between artists and curators.
