Rennes Biennale 2016

On the occasion of the Biennale d’art contemporain de Rennes, the Fondation d’entreprise Ricard confirms its commitment to the French scene and supports the project of Camille Blatrix.

Inspired the methods that cinema and advertising use to manipulate our emotions, fears and fascinations, the work of Camille Blatrix never stops questioning, admiring and also disparaging stereotyped images and their impact on our imagination and feelings. Camille investigates common signs and their uses to distance himself, he says, from a “pure sculptor’s work”. As an artist, he intends to create objects and design installations in which “the public can take part, make a decision or become integrated”. Camille Blatrix has been invited to carry out a large-scale project intended to appear in various public spaces throughout the city of Rennes. He has designed a mobile piece, which is the locus of an intriguing performance which springs up in various locations throughout the biennale event. The artist’s ongoing relationship with sculpture and narrative is reflected in this remarkable new large-scale project, a genuine expansion of his practice through the Incorporated! exhibition, created in association with 40mcube Outsite. Work created with the support of the Fondation d’entreprise Ricard.

Winner of the 2014 Fondation d’entreprise Ricard Prize, Camille Blatrix took part in the 13th Lyon Biennale. More recently he has exhibited his work at the Sculpture Center (New York), Frac Île-de-France (Paris), the Palais de Tokyo (Paris) and the Mostyn art gallery in Wales. September 2016 sees him exhibiting his work at the Wattis Institute, San Francisco.
