Isa Genzken

Artist

Isa Genzken, born on November 27, 1948 in Bad Oldesloe, is a German artist living and working in Berlin.

She studied at Hamburg's Hochschule für bildende Künste from 1969 to 1971, then at Berlin's University of the Arts from 1971 to 1973, and finally at Düsseldorf's Public Academy of Fine Arts from 1973 to 1977. She won the International Art Prize (donated by the SSK, Munich) in 2004 and the Wolfgang Hahn Prize in 2002 in Cologne. Her work has been exhibited in numerous prestigious galleries and institutions, most recently Isa Genzken, 75/75, at the Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin, in 2023; Isa Genzken, Works from 1973 to 1983, at K21 of the Kunstsammlung NordrheinWestfalen in Düsseldorf in 2021 and at the Kunstmuseum Basel in 2020; Isa Genzken, Kaiserring Laureate 2017, at the Mönchehaus Museum in Goslar in 2017; Isa Genzken, Mach Dich hübsch! , at Berlin's Martin-Gropius-Bau in 2016 and at Amsterdam's Stedelijk Museum in 2015; Isa Genzken, Modèles pour projets extérieurs, at Bonn's Bundeskunsthalle (2016); La Biennale de Montréal in 2016; the 9th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, Berlin in 2016 ; Isa Genzken, New Works, at the Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt in 2015 and the Museum der Moderne in Salzburg in 2014; All the World's Futures, at the 56th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale (2015); and Isa Genzken, Retrospective, at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2013, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago in 2014 and the Dallas Museum of Art in 2014.
