To describe Anita Molinero’s sculpture, there is no shortage of adjectives: wild, vitalist, expressive, violent, powerful, improvised, direct, funny, colorful, aggressive, virile, raw, familiar, provocative, science-fictional. One could perhaps go faster by recalling that she has the habit of making sculpture by mishandling objects and materials taken from everyday life, which are « impure, without quality », even « at the limit of the tolerable » (Paul Bernard) in the image of these old mattresses in faded foam that she has long used. Since 1995, her favorite material has been plastic, a generic term that refers to multiple polymers with specific properties (polystyrene, polypropylene, polyethylene, polycarbonate, polyvinylidene chloride…). And that she began to work at the beginning of the years 1980 in a cataclysmic context made of oil crisis, nuclear catastrophe, liquidation of the utopias of the left. For all that, the artist keeps a very good distance from a moralizing approach and she remains to this day distrustful of what she calls « the art of commentary »: « I know the world in which I live. I work with the conditions of this world, I do not work against, I metaphorize our period » she explained in 2019 to Vinciane Despret.
